This month we’re highlighting books about magic by a Latine/Latinx author for picture book, middle grade, and young adult readers. Putting together this list revealed to us the need for more stories from Canadian Latine/Latinx authors about the fantastical especially the magical for children. In fact, more stories from Canadian Latine/Latinx authors in general! In the meantime, enjoy these stories of an ancient Mesoamerican creation myth, a young witch-in-training, and an otherworldly world beneath a lake.
1) Feathered Serpent and the Five Suns: A Mesoamerican Creation Myth by Duncan Tonatiuh (Picture Book)
Award-winning author and illustrator Duncan Tonatiuh brings an ancient Mesoamerican creation myth to life in the picture book Feathered Serpent and the Five Suns.

3) Lakelore by Anna-Marie McLemore (Young Adult)
In this young adult novel by award-winning author Anna-Marie McLemore, two non-binary teens are pulled into a magical world under a lake – but can they keep their worlds above water intact?
Everyone who lives near the lake knows the stories about the world underneath it, an ethereal landscape rumored to be half-air, half-water.
