About Pitch Perfect for Agents and Editors
The Pitch Perfect program is always looking for agents and editors who are passionate about championing underrepresented voices in publishing.
The Pitch Perfect program matches aspiring authors with an agent or editor who has experience working in their genre. The agent/editor reviews a query letter, synopsis and the first 20 pages of the completed and unpublished manuscript, then provides concrete feedback for improvement. This feedback is given during a one-on-one virtual meeting (either video call or phone call), scheduled at a mutually convenient time.
Agents/editors will be given no more than 4 submission packages and will be paid an honourarium based on the number of packages assigned. Best efforts will be made to assign manuscripts in the agent/editor’s preferred genres.
FAQ
-
What is the timeline for the Pitch Perfect program?
Agents and editors have until March 8, 2026 to apply to be part of the program.
If selected, you will be matched with authors at the beginning of April and one-on-one meetings should be completed by mid-May. Honourariums will be paid once all one-on-one meetings have been completed.
-
Am I guaranteed a spot in the program if I apply?
Agents and editors are selected based on the number and genres of manuscript submissions we receive. We do our best to include as many agents and editors as we can and assign manuscripts in your preferred genres. However, we cannot guarantee participation or assignment of specific genres.
-
How am I matched with authors?
In the application, you can indicate your preferred genres. We do our best to match you with submissions within your preferred genres.
-
Do I have to come to Brampton to be a part of Pitch Perfect?
No. All of the Pitch Perfect sessions will be virtual and will take place over Skype, Zoom, or telephone–whatever works best for you and your authors.
-
What kind of feedback will the authors expect?
The purpose of the one-on-one meeting is to give advice and direction for improving the author’s manuscript and motivating them on their publishing journey. We encourage you to focus your feedback on how to improve the manuscript pages. If you also have feedback for the author’s query letter and/or synopsis, that would also be welcome. The author may also have questions more generally about the querying/submissions process.
