THE WRITER’S COURT: WRITERS WANTED
Are you an aspiring writer with a manuscript that’s (almost) ready for submission? Would you like a chance to get some real-time editorial feedback? Apply to take part in The Writer’s Court, the must-see feature event of the first Festival of Literary Diversity (FOLD)!
The FOLD is looking for a few more emerging (unpublished) writers to read an excerpt from their work for a panel of experts and a live audience. Writers can read short fiction, fiction and/or creative nonfiction. Writers who have self-published or who have been published in another genre, such as poetry, may also be considered.
Writer’s who are selected to read will hear feedback from Literary Agent Carly Watters (PS Literary Agency), Editors Janice Zawerbny (House of Anansi) and Troy Palmer (Little Fiction|Big Truths), and Industry Professional and #DiverseCanLit Twitter maven Léonicka Valcius (Scholastic Books).
If you are interested and you are available to attend the Writer’s Court event in person (Saturday May 7th, from 5:30-7pm), please send the following through our online submission:
- A pdf of the first five pages of your manuscript (pages should be the beginning excerpt of a larger, completed manuscript).
- A single page summary of the work
- A short (300-word or less) explanation of why your lived experience makes your work ideal for the first Festival of Literary Diversity Writer’s Court event.
Deadline is midnight on Monday, April 18th. Successful candidates will be notified by Friday, April 22. Due to the volume of submissions received, we regret that we are unable to provide feedback on individual submissions.
This Writer’s Court is sponsored by KOBO Writing Life.
