Communications and Development Coordinator,
The Festival of Literary Diversity
Type of Position: Part-Time 5-Month Contract (with the possibility of extending)
Salary: $8,000
Roles and Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Artistic Director, the Communications and Development Coordinator will manage marketing, communication, and production initiatives to support and execute the Festival of Literary Diversity. While the position will involve working remotely for the most part, the position does require someone who lives in close proximity to Brampton. Candidates will average approximately 20 hours of work per week. Design skills and familiarity with WordPress and Photoshop are essential to the role. Strong oral and written communication skills in English and social media savvy are also important. While an undergraduate degree is not required, post-secondary experience or equivalent work experience is strongly encouraged.
Marketing and Design (45%)
- Collaborate with graphic designer and web developer on all print and electronic communications
- Create and distribute FOLD print communications (press releases, ads, promotional materials, et cetera)
- Coordinate external distribution, where necessary
- Make arrangements for media and act as primary media contact
- Test, implement, and refine materials for the FOLD
- Write and edit dynamic, time-specific copy for website
- Update files and modules where appropriate
- Manage emailing system (Constant Contact or MailChimp, etc.)
- Create and maintain multiple mailing lists and tailor messages to specific audience (donors, funders, program participants, community partners et cetera)
- Manage social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter and Linked In)
- Research and write blog posts
- Create multichannel monthly social media calendar
- Curate and research meaningful and relevant social media content
- Develop strategic connections online
- Arrange promotional events in the community (such as booths at other festivals, etc.)
- Take part in, and contribute to, strategic planning sessions
Production (25%)
- Source all necessary permits and insurance for FOLD
- Create a detailed logistics schedule, and confirm all event details in order to execute safe, successful events (fundraisers, conferences, exhibits and advocacy initiatives)
- Source and confirm details for venue (catering, permits, audio-visual, performers et cetera)
- Recruit caterers, speakers, volunteers, and participants and curate event from start to finish
- Handle ticketing portal online (EventBrite)
- Manage photography at events
Fund Development (15%)
- Design, implement and evaluate funder and donor recognition strategy
- Coordinate and execute all donor recognition and stewardship activities
- Perform prospect research on foundations, donors and government agencies to identify and evaluate prospects for grants
- Maintain electronic records related to donors and event participants
- Oversee third party fundraisers and act as point of contact
- Assist in drafting and editing grant proposals
Volunteer Management (10%)
- Schedule and coordinate volunteer training and programming
Administration (5%)
- Develop and oversee the training and development of staff and interns
Position is a five-month contract starting February 1, 2016 and ending June 1, 2016. Position may extend beyond this period pending approval by the Board of Directors.
