Changing the world, one book at a time.

As a team of dedicated book-loving professionals, we discover, shape, and share content that nurtures thoughts, dreams, and conversations around the globe, ensuring that new and established voices are heard.

We are actively seeking to add team members from communities with lived experiences of marginalization and underrepresentation. We respect and value each individual and are committed to creating a more diverse team and establishing a culture of belonging. If you identify as Black, Indigenous, a person of colour, a member of the LGBTQIA2S+ community or another marginalized group, we strongly encourage you to apply.

We’re looking for highly driven interns to join our teams.

Our internships:

We offer internships designed to engage you in meaningful work that supports your professional growth and facilitates learning in your area of specialty while contributing to the success of our books. You will be surrounded by colleagues with the same curiosity, drive, and passion for books. No matter your area of work, you’ll grow professionally and personally, learn more about book publishing, and gain valuable skills to prepare you for a successful future.

Our interns are paid $18.00 per hour and work 35 hours per week. You will be one of a group of interns working in various functions across the business, including opportunities in the following departments and editorial divisions:

  • Design
  • Appetite Editorial
  • Doubleday Canada Editorial
  • Knopf Canada Editorial
  • McClelland & Stewart Editorial
  • Penguin Canada Editorial
  • Random House Canada Editorial
  • Tundra Book Group Editorial
  • Insights & Analytics
  • Marketing & Publicity
  • Production
  • Rights
  • Sales & Operations

Most employees based out of our offices in Toronto and Vancouver are currently working from home or in a hybrid/flexible model. Many of our opportunities can be performed remotely so we welcome applicants from across Canada to apply.

The internship experience:

Through a hands-on, full-time role, you will gain valuable industry experience, develop important connections with other interns and with professionals across the company, and play a part in getting the books we publish into the hands of our readers.

Be part of a community of book lovers—Like all of our employees, you will participate in the life of our company, attending all-company gatherings and other events, including monthly BIPOC forums, allyship forums, and social events led by our social & charitable committee, currently virtual!

Intern Speaker Series sessions with publishing professionals and leaders—Having removed our requirement to have an education in publishing, we’ll do our part to help you learn about the industry and the unique aspects of our business while you’re with us.

Free and discounted books—Our free book program typically allows employees occasions to order several free books and e-books throughout the year, and you’ll receive a significant discount on books ordered through our online Penguin Shop at any time. You’ll also have access to our Reader and Volumes apps, which contain many free ebooks and audiobooks!
