FOLD Kids: 2026 Summer Reading Program

The FOLD Kids Summer Reading Program encourages young readers to explore new stories, discover diverse Canadian authors, and build a love of reading all summer long.

Throughout the summer, participants can track their reading through Beanstack or a digital activity book to earn badges, complete fun activities, and discover recommended books by authors and illustrators from a wide range of cultures, communities, and experiences. The program encourages kids to “travel” through stories, explore different perspectives, and connect with characters and worlds beyond their own.

Sign-up for a Beanstack Account

It is easy and quick to register for a Beanstack account. Here’s how!

1. Visit FOLD on Beanstack.
2. Click Register an Individual or Family.
3. When asked whether you have previously used Beanstack to participate in a reading challenge, click NO.
4. Follow the remaining prompts to create an account.

To sign-up your child under your account:

1. After creating your own account, go to the Settings and click on Readers.
2. Click Add A Reader and fill out your child’s information.
3. And your done! You can now register your child for one of the Summer Reading Program challenges.

Use the Activity Book

We’ve created an activity book to go along with your summer reading experience. This can be used in place of Beanstack or alongside your Beanstack tracking.

It features different ways to track your reading, a page to set a reading goal, a place to write a book review, colouring pages and important definitions for genres and type of books.

Pick a Challenge!

We have four challenges you can choose to focus on this summer:

• PICTURE BOOKS

The Picture Book Challenge is designed for children who enjoy illustrations, read-aloud stories, and new reader adventures.

• CHAPTER BOOKS

The Chapter Book Challenge is designed to help readers get ready to dive into longer stories with the occasional illustration (unless it’s a graphic novel!) and is filled with stories of adventure, mystery, friendship, fantasy, and more. These types of readers are usually called Early Readers.

• MIDDLE GRADE

The Middle Grade Challenge is designed for readers ready to dive into longer, text only stories (unless it’s a graphic novel) filled with adventure, mystery, friendship, fantasy, and more.

• YOUNG ADULT

The Young Adult Challenge is designed for teen readers who enjoy powerful, thought-provoking, complex, coming-of-age stories across genres

This summer, let reading take you on a journey—no suitcase needed! With the FOLD Kids Summer Reading Program, you can read every day or just once in a while. You can read one book or one hundred (or more!). What matters most is finding stories you enjoy.
