FOLD Reads: Zegaajimo Reading Challenge

FOLD is excited to launch its first-ever FOLD Reads Community Read, featuring Zegaajimo: Indigenous Horror Fiction. Presented in partnership with Kegedonce Press, the fall reading challenge invites readers to explore the anthology at their own pace while celebrating Indigenous authors, short fiction, and a shared reading experience. Participants will hear from contributors through social media and can earn badges for reading stories. The Community Read will also feature a limited-edition FOLD Apparel collection inspired by Zegaajimo.

Meaning “to tell a scary story” in Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe), Zegaajimo is an anthology of eleven horror stories, many drawing on traditional stories, exploring terrifying creatures, strange places, unexpected wonders, and the horrors that can exist in both the supernatural and everyday world.

Join the challenge today.

Kegedonce is thrilled to be partnering with FOLD for the first time. We trust participants will find Zegaajimo to be an absolute blast: it gives readers a peek into the dazzling (and downright creepy!) imaginations of some of the best contemporary Indigenous writers around,” says Richard-Yves Sitoski, Marketing and Publication Coordinator for Kegedonce Press.

FOLD Apparel

The apparel collection is part of the broader FOLD Reads: Zegaajimo Reading Challenge, which invites readers to pick up the anthology and read along with the FOLD community.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Kegedonce Press to bring Zegaajimo to our FOLD Reads community,” said Jael Richardson, FOLD Executive Director. “Reading challenges are an opportunity to discover new voices and connect with other readers, and Zegaajimo offers a compelling way to explore Indigenous storytelling through the horror genre. The apparel collection is another way for our community to celebrate these stories while supporting FOLD’s year-round work.”

Whether you’re a longtime horror reader or looking to explore the genre through Indigenous voices, Zegaajimo offers a collection of stories made to be read and shared.

The limited-edition Zegaajimo collection will be available through FOLD Apparel, FOLD’s print-on-demand platform that raises funds to support year-round programming and its literary festivals. Items include:

  • Hoodie – Your new scary-story season essential.
  • Trucker Hat – Top off your reading look with the limited-edition FOLD × Zegaajimo trucker hat.
