School Groups @ The FOLD

Bring your class to The FOLD. 

The Festival of Literary Diversity is growing! The second festival features two full days of school group events to introduce young readers and writers to diverse, Canadian storytellers. School groups can choose to participate in two seventy-minute presentations, with time to visit a wonderful array of downtown Brampton restaurants for their lunch break. Schools may also choose to attend only one session.

All sessions take place at the Central Public School Rec Centre Auditorium. The auditorium is wheelchair accessible, and accessible public washrooms will be provided.

$12/ student for two session.

$7/ student for a single session.

Register today. Pay by credit card to secure spaces. Payments by cheque must be received in full by April 1, 2017, or the spaces will be given over to waitlisted groups.

 

THURSDAY, MAY 4

9:45 | WRITE NOW

What does it really take to become a writer? How do writers come up with an idea and turn it into an idea worth reading about? Authors Sarah Raughley, M-E Girard and Gary Barwin discuss their latest works and the ups and downs of being a writing professional in this not-to be missed panel for readers and writers. Ideal for grades 7 – 10.

 

12:15 | SPOKEN WORD PERFORMANCE

On Thursday, spoken word trio The Unchartered — Patrick de Belen, Patrick Walters, and Scribe Watkis, return to the FOLD stage for another powerful performance. Format: 45 minute performance followed by an audience Q & A.

 

FRIDAY, MAY 5

9:45 | IN TIMES OF WAR

Authors Adwoa Badoe, Dmitri Nasrallah, and Arusha Raina discuss stories set during times of real and imagined war, reflecting on the importance of research and creative play in the creation of stories featuring characters wrestling with personal conflicts in the midst of civil unrest. Ideal for grades 9 – 12.

Friday’s spoken word performance features exciting new FOLD faces — poets who’ve been shaking the world over with their words and wit: Shadiya Aidid, Jamaal Rogers, and Sheniz Janmohamed. Format: 45 minute performance followed by an audience Q & A.
